Belgium 10.26.17: Leuven

Just a warning: I don’t have much to say about Leuven, but it’s not because the city was blah.  More like, it was a last minute trip and I didn’t really plan anything to do.

But there’s a lot of pretty pictures~ 😀

Leuven is the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant. It’s a rather small city.

As I mentioned in one of the Spain entries, cathedrals aren’t churches. They’re museums.

One thing I learned yesterday on the phototour is that if I want good photos, I should wake up early when the city is still asleep.

Bicycle Street!

Did that happen today?

Nope.

I don’t think I mentioned this in the previous posts, but the trains are equipped with restrooms and it was pretty clean when I used it on the way to Leuven. I can imagine that at the end of the day it’d be a bit gross, though.

I rested at a cafe while reading and enjoying an Oreo milkshake before heading to the Kruidtuin (Botanical Garden).

Puppies!

No admission fees! Super relaxing.

The garden was really pretty~

So many colors!
Winter is coming…
The pond has some huge fish!

The other thing I learned was that I kinda need to plan what I want to do in a city and probably even (loosely) schedule when to do it.

Ohey, another door!

Some people are good at wandering around aimlessly. I am not one of those people haha. I mean, it happens, but not intentionally xD.

I eventually decided to go Abbey Park, but I guess I misread how long it’d take for me to get there because it seemed like an extremely long time.

I think midway, I debated going back to the city center, but I had 12 minutes left. So, I pushed through.

The park contained Kerk in Nood (Church in Need) and Norbertijnenabdij van Park. There was some exhibition going on in the abbey, but I didn’t check it out.

I think I walked either 37 minutes or 47 minutes… So, I just sat in the park for a bit.

My feet were actually throbbing ha.

I was sad that I held off the waffles yesterday because of my stomach, so today I decided to take a chance. These were 2 so I figured they were safe ;).

Yummy!

I returned to Brussels shortly after the waffle consumption. Upon arrival in Brussel-Zuid, yup, you guessed it, I got lost. I got off a different platform than the previous two days, so I didn’t recognize anything. I left the train station and crossed the road where a ton of taxi drivers just stared at me. Made me so uncomfortable, I went back inside. Then I followed some people who looked like they knew where they were going. After a bit, we made it back into Gare du Midi.

Hamburger pizza.

I realized I didn’t have any actual meals today and the one place I wanted to go to near my Airbnb, but it required reservations and it was cash only and I wasn’t sure if I had enough cash. Fortunately, Domino’s Pizza was within a two minute walking distance. Yes, I wanted to see what European Domino’s tasted like. I mean, the Italian McDonald’s chicken nuggets actually tasted like chicken.

I’m actually unsure how I felt about the pizza…

Total miles walked: 15.22 miles.
